What is frost and fire (short story)?

"Frost and Fire" is a science fiction short story by Ray Bradbury, originally published in 1946. The story takes place on a planet called Mercury, which has a day-night cycle that lasts for eight Earth years. The main character, Sim, is born into a tribe that lives in perpetual daylight, and is told he will die at the age of 8 because of a virus that destroys the body's ability to retain memory. Sim sets out on a quest to find a way to prevent his impending death, and eventually discovers that his tribe's ancestors had built a device that could freeze a person's physical state and preserve their memories. However, Sim's attempts to freeze himself go awry and he is instead exposed to the planet's scorching rays, which accelerate his aging and ultimately lead to his death. The story explores themes such as human mortality, the quest for immortality, and the dangers of blindly following tradition.
